Gingival Treatment

What is Gingival Treatment?

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Gingival treatment focuses on diagnosing, preventing, and treating gum disease — a common yet often overlooked condition that can lead to tooth loss and other health issues if left untreated.

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, typically begins with plaque buildup and can progress from gingivitis (mild inflammation) to periodontitis (severe gum infection) if not properly managed.

Signs You May Need Gingival Treatment:

  • Bleeding gums while brushing or flossing

  • Red, swollen, or tender gums

  • Persistent bad breath

  • Gum recession or loose teeth

  • Sensitivity or discomfort when chewing

Types of Gingival Treatments We Offer:

  • Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)
A non-surgical procedure that removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line and smooths the roots to help gums reattach to the teeth.

  • Antibiotic Therapy
Targeted medication to control bacterial infection and support healing.

  • Surgical Gum Treatment (for advanced cases)
Includes flap surgery or grafting procedures to restore gum health and prevent further damage.

Why Treat Gum Disease?

  • Prevents tooth loss

  • Reduces risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic conditions linked to poor gum health

  • Improves breath, comfort, and overall oral hygiene

  • Preserves the bone and tissue that support your teeth

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is gum disease reversible?

+
-
Yes — in its early stage (gingivitis), gum disease is completely reversible with professional cleaning and improved oral hygiene. However, advanced gum disease (periodontitis) requires more intensive treatment to manage and prevent further damage.

Is the treatment painful?

+
-
Most gingival treatments are minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia for your comfort. You may experience some sensitivity or soreness after deep cleaning, but it usually subsides within a few days.

How often should I get my gums checked?

+
-
We recommend a gum health check every 6 months during your regular dental exams. If you’ve had gum disease before, more frequent cleanings (every 3–4 months) may be recommended to maintain results.

What happens if gum disease is left untreated?

+
-
If untreated, gum disease can lead to gum recession, bone loss, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss. It’s also linked to serious health issues like heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory infections. Early detection and treatment are key.
